Profiles in Literacy: Madicil Tildé (Haiti)
Madicil Tildé is a Haitian businesswoman who sells laundry detergent, rice, eggs, cosmetics and almost anything else she can make a profit on. Madicil is also learning to read and write through a program sponsored by Fonkoze, Haiti’s largest microfinance institution and a partner program of ProLiteracy. She describes how thrilled she was when she could finally sign her own name to a loan agreement—rather than sign with a fingerprint.
